Some common camera angles and movements that are common in true crime movies are high angles, low angles, close- up and extreme close-up. Tracking shot, long shot, medium close up, medium close-up and tilt are also common. Some common sounds that true crime movies use are diegetic sound and non-diegetic sound. Dialogue, and ambient sounds are also common. Some common editing techniques that true crime movies use are eye-line match, and shot/reverse shot. Common costumes are regular cloths that people wear every day. Common lighting key lighting, back lighting, soft lighting, and motivation lighting. Common acting is that all actors act casually until someone upsets the balance of life that the directors created. Some common props and sets can be houses, neighborhoods, Things that people use in their day today lives are also common in true crime films. Common use of makeup can depend on the actors and their roles.
Some elements that I did like was the shots that they used. Along with how the ambient sounds to set the scene. I will maybe use non-diegetic sounds, low angle, high angle, tracking shots, and tilts. Those seem the easiest to use when filming a true crime film because those actually help set the scene.
I don't really like the extreme close up. Most people like to see the crime scenes close up but to the point of where you can see the little details. I also did not like the back lighting. In some of the crime films that I have watched there were small details that were specific to the movies that I watched that I also did not like. For example, in The Stepfather, I did not like how the mother did not catch on to how the stepfather was acting suspicious. I get that it is suppose to be like that, but it was a little obvious that he was a little suspicious. I noticed that the stepfather did not wear gloves to cover his traces, but when the bodies are found, fingerprints are not talked about.
Signing Off,
