Genre Research: Thriller

Is she ok?

Some common camera angles and movements that are common in thriller movies are establishing shots, high angles, low angles, close- up and extreme close-up. Tracking shot, long shot, medium close up, medium close-up and tilt are also common. Some common sounds that thriller movies use are diegetic sound and non-diegetic sound. Dialogue, and ambient sounds are also common.  Some common editing techniques that thriller movies use are eye-line match, and shot/reverse shot. Common costumes are regular cloths that people wear every day.  Common lighting key lighting, back lighting, soft lighting, and motivation lighting. They also use bright lightings. Common acting is that all actors act casually. Some common props and sets can be houses, neighborhoods, things that people use in their day today lives are also common in thriller films. Common use of makeup can depend on the actors and their roles.

There are countless scenes where it is simply quiet and its just the sounds the actor is making, which I love. It makes everything feel better, in a sense, it makes people get anxious and questioning whats going to happen and sometimes it is nothing, maybe a cat or something along those lines. But that is what makes it amzing about thrillers, especially for me since I don't like horror but thrillers are good.

A movie that I think the whole world now is Parasite. The director Bong Joon-ho did such an amzing job and was able to covey that feeling of uneasiness and create the overall atmoshpere of the movie. Even looking at posters you get the sense that something isn't right. He did such an amazing job conveying emotions with his scenes. For some reason, the scene I do remember is the one in the bathroom and the actors are looking at their phones, I remeber this because of the lighting and the setting. The bathroom isn't in perfect shape and the lighting makes me feel uneasy. Along with is the where the camera it's angled, it ties the scene together.

Signing Off,

Kay.
